Karimun, July 1, 2026 – The BPS-Statistics of Karimun Regency released two latest official statistical news (Berita Resmi Statistik/BRS) today. The latest macroeconomic indicators reveal dynamic movements, highlighted by an acceleration in the annual inflation rate for June 2026 and a major performance in external trade, which logged a substantial surplus in May 2026.


Consumer Price Index Development in Karimun Regency, June 2026

In June 2026, Karimun Regency recorded a year-on-year (y-on-y) inflation rate of 3.55 percent, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) standing at 109.68. On a month-to-month (m-to-m) basis, the inflation rate rose slightly by 0.05 percent, while the year-to-date (y-to-d) inflation rate reached 0.34 percent by the end of June 2026.

The y-on-y inflation was driven by price increases across the majority of expenditure groups. Expenditure groups that registered notable annual contributions to the CPI include:

• Food, Beverages, and Tobacco (5.29 percent inflation), which provided the largest annual inflation share at 1.97 percent. The primary driving commodities were red chili, broiler chicken meat, and rice.

• Personal Care and Other Services (5.07 percent inflation), with a share of 0.41 percent, heavily dominated by price movements of gold jewelry.

• Food and Beverage Providing Services/Restaurant (3.66 percent inflation), with a share of 0.26 percent, driven upward by the commodity of rice with side dishes.

• Transportation (2.85 percent inflation), contributing an inflation share of 0.34 percent, with the dominant commodity being cars.

• Clothing and Footwear (4.67 percent inflation), contributing an annual share of 0.29 percent.

Meanwhile, a decrease in the index (y-on-y deflation) occurred in the Health group by 0.63 percent.


Export and Import Development in Karimun Regency, May 2026

The international trade performance of Karimun Regency in May 2026 highlighted a massive expansion in non-oil and gas exports. The monthly export value reached US$515.72 million, surging sharply by 67.62 percent compared to April 2026 (m-to-m). Conversely, import activities fell drastically, as the import value was successfully compressed to US$131.80 million, dropping by 69.43 percent month-on-month.

Driven by the substantial export expansion and falling imports, Karimun's trade balance in May 2026 recorded a substantial surplus of US$383.92 million. This positive trend also reversed the cumulative trade balance for January–May 2026 into a surplus of US$235.90 million. Detailed trade metrics demonstrate:

• Sectoral Trade Value: The monthly surplus was fully backed by the non-oil and gas sector, which logged a trade surplus of US$391.18 million, whereas the oil and gas sector faced a deficit of US$7.26 million.

• Dominant Commodities (Cumulative): Non-oil and gas exports during January–May 2026 were overwhelmingly led by the Ships and Boats group (HS 89), valued at US$402.03 million with a commanding peranan of 80.12 percent. Conversely, non-oil and gas imports were led by Machinery/Mechanical Appliances (HS 84) with a share of 45.35 percent.

• Trading Partners: Romania surged to become the largest cumulative non-oil and gas export destination, holding an 80.96 percent share, while Singapore led as the main destination for oil and gas exports. On the import side, the Fed Russia was the largest country of origin for total and oil and gas imports, whereas China led for non-oil and gas import shares.

• Main Ports: All external trade operations remained heavily centralized through the Port of Tanjung Balai Karimun.
